Alchemy Festival - 16 April 2012
Moni Mohsin hosted the morning presentation that was very well received by the attendees. Artistic work of the talented quilters of rural Sindh was highly appreciated.
Maliha and Tasnim have been working with these villagers since they met them at the Displaced Persons refugee camp around Karachi in August 2010. They helped these women revive an age old tradition of quilting.
Traditional as well as contemporary designs are produced and marketed to the diaspora in many countries. Links have been established through personal contacts. Efforts are ongoing to build succession and sustainability of this initiative over the longer term. To this end, younger persons are being encouraged to join the fold and access to commercial outlets locally as well overseas is being explored.
